What are the differences between polypropylene lightweight filament and polypropylene FDY filament?

The differences between polypropylene lightweight filament and polypropylene FDY filament are as follows:

Appearance form

polypropylene lightweight filament generally refers to polypropylene air-deformed yarn (ATY filament), which has the fluffiness of deformed filament, and the fibers are curled and fluffy.

Polypropylene FDY filament is straight, with a smooth surface. The fibers are closely arranged and there are no obvious curled or fluffy structures.

Production process

Polypropylene lightweight filament is made through the air deformation process. First, feed the polypropylene filament into the air deforming machine. The high-speed airflow causes the filament to expand and deform, forming a lightweight filament with fluffiness and elasticity.

Polypropylene FDY filament is produced by high-speed spinning process. After heating and melting polypropylene chips, they are extruded through a spinneret to form filaments. Then, they undergo high-speed stretching, cooling and curing processes to directly produce continuous filaments with certain orientation and strength.

Performance characteristics

Polypropylene lightweight silk is light, fluffy and has excellent thermal insulation, giving a feel similar to that of natural fibers. It has good elasticity and can return to its original shape well after stretching. The core has a strong absorption capacity and a remarkable effect in moisture absorption and sweat-wicking.

Polypropylene FDY filament has relatively high strength, and its strength is basically the same in both dry and wet states. It has good wear resistance and chemical corrosion resistance. It has good dimensional stability and is not prone to deformation during use.

Application field

Polypropylene lightweight filament is often used in the clothing field and can be blended with various fibers to make knitted clothes, such as sportswear and socks, providing a comfortable experience for the wearer. In the home textile field, it can be used to make filling materials for bedding, curtains, sofa fabrics, etc. In the industrial field, it can be used to make some industrial felts that require light weight, heat preservation and certain strength, etc.

Polypropylene FDY filament is mainly used for making webbing, ropes, safety net belts, etc. Due to its high strength and wear resistance, it can meet the durability requirements of these products. In terms of industrial fabrics, it can be used for geotextiles, industrial filter fabrics, etc. It can also be used to make luggage, flexible bulk bags, etc., providing them with good strength and durability.

Specification parameters

There are various specifications for polypropylene lightweight filaments in terms of fineness, with common ones including 30D, 50D, 75D, 100D, 150D, 300D, etc. The number of single filaments is 12F, 24F, 36F, 48F, 72F, 96F, etc.

The specifications of polypropylene FDY filament usually include different fineness such as 300D - 3000D, and common ones are 150D, 210D, 300D, 420D, 500D, etc. The corresponding number of single filaments is 36F, 48F, 72F, 96F, 144F, 288F, etc.
